Active Learning Instructor Kit

The CAFE team has curated a kit of items to help support Active Learning in the Classroom.

How the Kit Supports Active Learning

This instructor kit is designed to provide you with the basic elements you might need to implement an active learning activity in your classroom.

The kit enables instructors to engage students quickly, encourage collaboration, and create learning moments that strengthen participation and deepen understanding.

To receive your own Active Learning Instructor Kit, you will need to participate in and complete an ALICE (Active Learning in Classroom Environments) training with CAFE.

What the Instructor Kit Includes

The kit is stored in a drawstring bag and includes:

  • Active Learning Book
    • This handy spiral-bound book lists and explains over 30 Active Learning activities to use in your classroom. Scroll through the book for ideas and inspiration.
  • Bloom's Bookmark
    • Bloom's and Active Learning are perfect partners in the classroom. This bookmark serves double-duty. It lets you mark your place in your Active Learning Book and it shows the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy in a colorful format.
  • CAFE Pen
    • Who doesn't need a good pen? The perfect accessory to jot down ideas of how to use Active Learning activities in your class. It is also a reminder of who you can talk to if you need help or want to bounce ideas off of someone.
  • Dice
    • These ten-sided percentage dice can be used with multiple activities. Your creativity is the limit.
  • Expo Whiteboard Markers
    • Always useful, and always in short supply. Make sure to keep these markers in your bag. Share them with your students or keep them to yourself.
  • Index Cards
    • These simple pieces of cardstock can be used with so many Active Learning activities, like application cards, exit tickets, minute papers, and more.
  • Magnetic Clip
    • This strong clip is useful for holding reminders or for keeping all those index cards organized.
  • Mini Notebook
    • The perfect place to write down your ideas for Active Learning for topics in your class. It's also a great place for reflection and recording how the activity went.
  • Post-it Notes
    • Like the index cards, Post-it notes can be used quickly and easily during an activity. They allow students to communicate thoughts with you and with each other. They are also easy to collect at the end of the class session.
  • Stress Ball & Stress Pencil
    • Everyone needs some stress release. Give these stress toys a squeeze or a toss.
  • Water Bottle
    • Teaching is hard work. Staying hydrated can help keep you and your brain moving in the classroom.
