Student Evaluation of Teaching

The Committee for Effective Teaching, a Faculty Senate subcommittee, oversees all SET-related issues. For answers to questions related to SETs or the SET process please get in touch with a member of the Committee for Effective Teaching.

An intercampus faculty council of the UM System compiled a 2018 report on evaluating classroom-based, online, blended, and laboratory teaching interactions, which can be found in June 2018.

Survey Schedule Spring 2026

  • April 13 - Survey Opens - access for:
    • Instructor verification of classes (report any needed changes to the department chair)
    • Instructor add personalized questions
  • April 21 - Last Day:
    • Instuctor add personalized questions
    • Last Day to report changes to the Department Chair
  • April 23 - Last Day for changes to be made to instructor/course listing in JoeSS
  • April 24 - Data Freeze - no changes instructor/course listing in survey software

  • April 27 - Survey Access:
    • Student access to surveys OPEN
    • Instructor access to survey response rates
  • May 10 - Student access to surveys CLOSED
  • May 25 - Report access
    • Instructor access to statistics and comments
    • Chair & Dean access to statistics (no comments)
  • May 25 - Instructor submission of requests for redactions to comments OPEN
  • June 3 - Instructor submission of requests for redactions to comments CLOSED
  • June 10 - Committee decision on redaction requests
  • June 11 - Instructors informed of decision on redaction requests
  • June 15 - Chair access to comments on instructor surveys

Pre-Summer 2024

Summer 2024 and later

  • Survey results can be viewed on your Blue dashboard at: https://my-mst.bluera.com/
    • Login with your umsystem username and password.
    • On your Home page, scroll down to view the reports available by semester.

NOTE: The results for a specific semester may not be visible if your course had a low number of responses.

Blue provides a screen or pdf version of your survey result per class. Each question has an individual graph of the results.

Mid-Semester Feedback

The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence offers a mid-semester feedback service. This gives instructors a sense of how they and their students are performing in the classroom. It can be an invaluable tool because instructors then have time to adjust their teaching to better meet their students' needs and improve the course learning outcomes.
