Gradescope is integrated into Canvas, allowing instructors to grade various forms of assessments within the Gradescope interface and passing those grades back into the Canvas gradebook.
Key features of Gradescope:
- Create rubrics on the fly while grading assessments.
- Tag questions for analytical review.
- Create multiple versions of "bubble-sheet" style exams and have them all graded automatically by Gradescope.
- Instructors can scan and grade paper-based assessments in the Gradescope interface.
- Students can submit homework through Gradescope, and instructors can grade the submissions in the Gradescope interface.
- Reusable rubrics can be applied to any assessment.
How it works:
- Instructors create an Assignment or an Exam in Gradescope and link it to Canvas.
- Students complete the Assignment or Exam in Gradescope.
- Gradescope either grades the Exam automatically (Bubble-sheets) or the instructor grades each submission on the Assignments using Gradescope's powerful annotation and rubric tools.
- The grades are then posted into Canvas and sent to the appropriate column in the Gradebook.

Using Gradescope with Canvas as an Instructor - You need to create a Gradescope instance of your Canvas course and then link the two of them together. This allows you to transfer student enrollments and grades back and forth between platforms.
Using Gradescope with Canvas as a Student - Students will need to go to Gradescope to see their feedback on Assignments and Exams. Their grades will be posted to Canvas, but they can go into Gradescope to find out why they obtained the grade they did. Students can also request a regrade if desired.
