Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER)

Discipline-based education research (DBER) involves testing a theory or hypothesis on education within the context of a specific discipline. Most DBER projects emphasize education research in STEM fields, but DBER can apply to any discipline. DBER projects often involve a much greater scope than SoTL projects, such as multiple courses within a discipline or an entire degree program. DBER projects are almost always published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
