Students are asked to react to a statement or an open-ended question with a single word description, emotion, or reaction posed by the instructor. The instructor facilitates the Whip Around by directing the flow of answers until every student has had a chance to contribute. The goal is to quickly give each student voice. The activity is not debriefed until the end.

Make sure to give students an example “reaction” and keep it moving in a positive way. This should be a quick, energizing activity. If you aren’t good at keeping responses in your head, have someone record responses.
