Case studies involve an in-depth analysis of a single situation or set of circumstances over time. They have multiple perspectives, no easy solutions, and afford students the opportunity to explore endemic problems in the field, ethical dilemmas, or complex material.

RETURN TO INDEX

Many books and journals of cases studies exist. Allow students ample time to prepare and collect their thoughts. When facilitating a discussion of the case study, you may need to “stir up the conversation” at times or direct students to evidence or factors they may be overlooking.

Avoid telling students the “right” answers.

Create breakout rooms for smaller group discussion or the case study. Return to the main group to report and share. Use the chat feature in Zoom or MS Teams or Canvas or Top Hat online discussion board to allow students to discuss the case study.
