Students individually think about a question, scenario, or problem posed by the facilitator. Students are encouraged to write down (“INK”) some notes to themselves. Following the self-reflective time, have students pair up to discuss their ideas or answers. Finally, all students are brought together as a large class for discussion; some groups share out (based on class size).

Don’t ask recall/simple questions. Instead, challenge students with more complex questions or complicated ideas or multiple possibilities. Can be combined with student response systems.

Explain the prompt, then assign students to breakout rooms in pairs or small group discussion boards to discuss their ideas. Afterward, bring them back to share out to the entire class by typing their responses in the chat or post group reports to the larger class discussion board.
