After students have heard or read about an important principle or procedure, they write down one possible, real-world application for what they have just learned. After class, read through the cards for how accurate, reasonable, useful or creative the applications are. Sort into piles (for example, “Great”, “Acceptable”, or “Marginal”). Pick out a broad range of examples that are strong and share with the class.

Carefully word the task. Limit to one application for ease of reviewing. If students can think of many, challenge them to pick what they think is the “best”, most useful or most creative.

  • Padlet
  • Top Hat

Have students anonymously post one sticky note with one possible, real-world application on a virtual board (Zoom or Microsoft Whiteboard, Padlet). Sort those into areas for themed categories or applicability (“great”, “acceptable” or “developing”) on the whiteboard and debrief.
