DESIGNING A COURSE
CAFE invites you to sit down with one of our professional instructional designers for a confidential consultation. Our team can assist you with using the best teaching practices and provide research-informed guidance on student learning, classroom dynamics, content delivery, course design and management, and more!
REDESIGNING A COURSE
Courses have a shelf life, and they get old and tired if not maintained. Materials need updating, technologies change, and maybe you have grown as a teacher over the years. There are any number of reasons why it is a great idea to redesign your course every so often. Redesigning your course is a good way to ensure your goals, methods, and outcomes are aligned.
"TIME SPENT WORKING WITH A COURSE DESIGNER GREATLY REDUCES FRUSTRATION ONCE THE NEW COURSE BEGINS."
- DR. CHRISTI LUKS
GETTING YOUR COURSE MATERIALS UP AND RUNNING
The Instructional Design Team is available to help instructors build and deliver content for their courses. Our Instructional Developers can assist with tasks such as ensuring the function of clicker slides, captioning videos, or preparing recorded activities for smooth internet streaming, allowing you to spend less time worrying about things like “h.264 encoding” and “XML tags” and more time sharing knowledge in your area of expertise. These services are typically available to all S&T instructors after a consultation with an Instructional Designer or as part of the course redesign process.
Our Developers are experts at editing video for a variety of intended uses. Whether you need titles, transitions, clipping, cleanup, or re-encoding, we can perform the tasks necessary to prepare your video for distribution.
Our Developers can enhance your videos with ADA-compliant real-time captioning for ESL students, visual learners, or viewers with hearing loss or impairment.
CLICKER SLIDE CONVERSION
Each year versions of the classroom clicker software change, which can necessitate a conversion of any clicker slides. Our Developers are trained in the conversion process and can modify old slides to work with the newest clicker software.
CONVERT CONTENT TO POWERPOINT
We can also help instructors move content from notes to PowerPoint slides for classroom presentations.
We can digitize some of your paper quizzes and assignments. We will take those quizzes and assignments, input the information into Respondus, and upload them into Canvas in order to make the quizzes and assignments more accessible to the students.
Our Developers can help you manage the Learning Management System by creating assignments, uploading material, improving course navigation, and many other types of digital work related to Canvas.
Funded Redesign - eFellows Program
Participants in the eFellows program spend several months developing technology changes to their courses. They work extensively with the Instructional Design Team to ensure that their technological and pedagogical needs are aligned with each other to produce the best possible course experience for the students.
